Perkins Schools Tallgrass Prairie

This restored prairie is composed solely of locally-collected species, from prairie plants originating on the local Firelands Prairie.

At the corner of Clark and Taylor Rds, on the east side of Taylor (see map above) south of Sandusky, Ohio. It is in the Lake Plains Ohio Prairie Region (Prairie Regions of Ohio)

Prairie History

This authentic local prairie restoration, on the original Firelands Prairie, was planted by biology teacher John Blakeman in the late 1980s and early 90s, using solely seeds collected from local Firelands Prairie remnants.


Approximately 2 acres.

Prairie Description

This prairie is dominated by big bluestem, with a scattering of typical Firelands Prairie forbs. It serves as a seed resource for school and other local prairie restorations.

Visitation Information

Visitors are welcomed and free to wander and examine and photograph the prairie plants.
